Wow! Could it get any easier? Deceive your husband into thinking it took you all day.
Modifications:
-I used 6 chicken thighs (bone and skin included); the quantity reflects my deluded self-confidence after playing chef for one whole week.
-As recommended, I reduced the butter to a little over half. The Julia Child in me couldn't resist that extra bit of butter. (Julia Child? In me? ahem.)
-I mistakenly assumed I had prepared mustard in the fridge, so I substituted it with dijon.
-I added about 3/4 t. of garam masala in hopes of bringing out the Indian flavouring of the dish.
-Lastly, I placed the oven on broil for about 5 minutes at the end of the baking time to crispen the chicken skin (i.e. requisite crunch).
The Verdict:
I was quite surprised by how flavourful the chicken was. The honey definitely played the leading role (with the Indian spices as supporters), but with a pleasant balance (i.e. not too sweet). The leftovers earned their way into the lunchbox tomorrow. Florid descriptions such as "moist" and "unctuous" were uttered ad infinitum to the point of me wondering whether Fok was attempting to write this entry on the spot. This recipe is definitely one for the collection; perhaps not to wow a crowd, but definitely to please the palate for a quick and easy fix. My rating would be a solid four unctuous thighs out of five ;)
Hmm..."four unctuous thighs out of five" sounds like something you get for three sous in the Pigalle.
ReplyDeleteI really liked this dish, all the more so for not having lifted a finger myself. (Three cheers for laziness! Hip hip ... can't be bothered.) Kev, one of these days we're going to have to have a husbands-cook-for-their-wives entry. (It's not Delissio, it's delivery!)
Anyway, cheers to the ladies for delivering yet again....

I should also comment, under mild duress, that even though the chicken in the picture looks burned, it wasn't. Okay, honey?

Haha! Cat, I also couldn't believe how easy it was. The hardest part was making it speed up cooking so we could eat before 6pm. It felt too easy in a way, like cheating. Definitely a good standby recipe, although as you say, not a "wower". I'll be trying it again sometime soon, since I have honey in the cupboard now!
