Simple Thai-style Beef

It's a sweltering summer here and I'm on the lookout for simple meals because easy and quick are good features for a recipe when you want to spend little time prepping and cooking. I found Mark Bittman's 101 simple recipes published in the New York Times  in 2007 and so here's #90.

Ingredients:
1.5 lbs flank steak, pork shoulder or boneless chicken (I love the flexibility already!)
Peanut oil
1 Tbsp minced garlic
Red chili flakes
30 basil leaves
1/4 c water
1-2 Tbsp soy sauce or nam pla
Lime juice
Rice or salad

Directions:
Thinly slice the meat. Heat peanut oil in a skillet, add meat and stir.
A minute later, add a tablespoon minced garlic and some red chili flakes. Add 30 clean basil leaves, a quarter cup of water and a tablespoon or two of soy sauce or nam pla.
Serve with lime juice and more chili flakes, over rice or salad.
