"Dal"icious?

Another lentil option, though perhaps not one I would opt for. Not horrible, but solidly mediocre. I have had good dal before, but I fear that this recipe was its demise. What was with the microwaving? I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I served it with basmati rice and BBQd tandoori chicken (chicken thighs marinated in garam masala, cumin, turmeric, paprika, plain yogurt, and salt and pepper.)

Modifications:

I browned my diced onion in vegetable oil and added ground cumin. I used a little more of the spices than called for.

Preparation:

Microwave = bad. We are way beyond that ;)

The Verdict:

Not horrible. I ate it again for lunch the next day, and found that it absolutely needed rice to be tolerable. There was too much ginger for my liking, and could have used more flavour. It was good enough to make me want to look for a better version. The chicken was the meal-saver -- a tasty 4 out of 5. As for the dal, a half-hearted 2.5 "it's not "dal"icious, it's delivery(s)" out of 5.

  1. I didn't use the microwave, since it was easy to do the onion and spices on the frying pan. I don't think it was a central part of the recipe! The microwave was very handy for re-heating it later though:-)
