A perfect dish as we approach the "chili-est" time of year!
Modifications:
I omitted the white wine and substituted Worcestershire sauce for steak sauce. I found it a bit odd that a recipe with so many other ingredients would call for "chili seasoning", so I found a recipe for that that included cumin, chili powder, oregano, garlic, and salt. All other ingredients I kept the same, though I slightly modified the cooking order (I put the onion, garlic, celery, and carrot into the pot with a little olive oil and allowed them to sweat a bit before adding the tomatoes and paste.)
The Verdict:
A nice, solid chili recipe. In the future, I would not use stewed tomatoes. In fact, I didn't realize that the recipe called for a tin of stewed tomatoes, chopped, so had to fish them out and chop them after thinking, "what's with all the tomatoes floating around?" Strange that one should chop stewed tomatoes when one can buy diced tomatoes ;) I found it a tad tomato-ey, but liked the seasoning and the fresh herbs. I topped it off with some cheddar cheese, and served it with some good 'ol cornbread from back home ... well, not really. Overall, I would give this recipe 3.9 musical fruits out of 5 ;)
